Pro-Environmental Sustainability and Political Affiliation

In a new study, CSMRE faculty affiliate, Brian McCullough, worked with colleagues to examine how political attitudes were related to environment-related attitudes and behaviors. They collected data from sports fans, whose team had sponsored three sustainability initiatives during the season. Results showed that Democrats, more so than Republicans or Independents, had strong pro-environmental values and norms. However, political affiliation did not influence awareness of the campaigns the team ran throughout the season. The authors note that the results might inform how sport managers develop and maintain their sustainability efforts.
