Physical Activity, COVID-19 Cases, and COVID-19 Deaths: A County-Level Analysis

In a recent study, CSMRE faculty affiliate and director, George Cunningham, examined the links among physical activity and COVID-19 outcomes. Using various archival data sources, he collected data from 3142 counties in the US. Results indicate physical activity among county residents was related to fewer COVID-19 cases and deaths. Importantly, the relationship between COVID-19 cases and deaths decreased when physical activity was high. These findings suggest physical activity can have protective effects.
