College Student Development

In their recently published paper, Daniel Spring and CSMRE assistant director Marlene Dixon examine college student development in the context of formalized sport. In doing so, they overview the different ways in which sport is delivered within the US higher education system: recreational sport and varsity sport. They argue that most of the research to date has offered a narrow view of development. To advance this understanding, they summarize relevant theories and then show how these can help inform new paths and questions for researchers.
