On Sport Management Theory and Research
In a recent article, CSMRE director George Cunningham teamed up with colleagues to examine the distinctiveness of sport management. They focused on the theory and research in the field. They first offered a brief overview of the field’s evolution and then summarized the theories researchers frequently employed. Finally, they reviewed the research in the field, classifying published articles into one of three areas: Young Field, Enduring Questions, and Emerging Trends. Based on their assessment, the authors concluded that “sport management has emerged as a distinctive, robust discipline.”
